Angel Luis L\u00f3pez S\u00e1nchez <\/strong>&#8211; SENIOR DRILLING ENGINEER<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Si quieres reducir el da\u00f1o a la formaci\u00f3n productora causado por la invasi\u00f3n del fluido de perforaci\u00f3n, aumentar la tasa de penetraci\u00f3n (ROP), evitar p\u00e9rdidas de circulaci\u00f3n y maximizar la tasa de producci\u00f3n en pozos perforados en yacimientos depletados, la perforaci\u00f3n Bajo Balance es la t\u00e9cnica con la cual puedes alcanzar esos resultados.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Perforaci\u00f3n Bajo Balance (PBB): <\/strong>Es la t\u00e9cnica que permite perforar con la presi\u00f3n hidrost\u00e1tica del fluido en el pozo menor que la presi\u00f3n de la formaci\u00f3n <strong>(Ph <\/strong><strong>&lt; <\/strong><strong>Pf). Se recomienda <\/strong>que la presi\u00f3n manejada en superficie durante la perforaci\u00f3n no sea mayor de 500 psi <strong>(como pr\u00e1ctica operacional, si la presi\u00f3n en superficie llega a 700 psi se debe detener la perforaci\u00f3n y desahogar presi\u00f3n; <\/strong>si dicha presi\u00f3n no disminuye<strong>, <\/strong>se debe aumentar la densidad de la mezcla y circular a trav\u00e9s del estrangulador hasta obtener la presi\u00f3n de trabajo preestablecida<strong>)<\/strong>. Tambi\u00e9n es importante considerar el tipo y rango de presi\u00f3n m\u00e1xima del cabezal rotatorio o preventor rotatorio a utilizarse. <strong>El Bajo Balance se pude lograr con Lodo o con Fluido Aireado.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Perforaci\u00f3n Bajo Balance con Lodo: <\/strong>Consiste en bajar la densidad del fluido de perforaci\u00f3n, de tal forma que la presi\u00f3n de la formaci\u00f3n sea ligeramente mayor que la presi\u00f3n hidrost\u00e1tica. Esta t\u00e9cnica permite una mejor estabilidad del hoyo y control de la presi\u00f3n del yacimiento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Perforaci\u00f3n con Fluido Aireado<\/strong>: Se aplica el t\u00e9rmino aireado para el uso de nitr\u00f3geno o aire. Este m\u00e9todo consiste en bombear al interior de la tuber\u00eda un volumen calculado de nitr\u00f3geno o aire, para que al mezclarse con el fluido del pozo, se aligere la columna hidrost\u00e1tica y se eviten o reduzcan las p\u00e9rdidas de circulaci\u00f3n ocasionadas por sistemas convencionales de lodo. <strong><u>Ejemplo<\/u>:<\/strong> Un fluido con densidad original de 7,6 lpg se le inyectan 450 scf\/min de nitr\u00f3geno, puede lograr bajar su densidad inicial hasta 6,5 lpg, en cambio, inyectando 1050 scf\/min de nitr\u00f3geno a ese mismo fluido original se logra una densidad cerca de 4,89 lpg <strong>(Referencia: Experiencia de campo).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La t\u00e9cnica Bajo Balance es aplicada en muchas partes del mundo y su importancia radica en la considerable reducci\u00f3n del da\u00f1o a la formaci\u00f3n durante la perforaci\u00f3n. Por ejemplo en pozos productores de gas al Sur-Este de Venezuela<strong> que ten\u00edan una producci\u00f3n estimada de 8,04 MMPCGD, fue aplicada esta t\u00e9cnica y se logr\u00f3 obtener una producci\u00f3n real de 14,1 MMPCGD. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>Recomendaci\u00f3n: <\/strong>Para aplicar la t\u00e9cnica de PBB, previamente Angel Luis L\u00f3pez S\u00e1nchez <\/strong><\/strong>&#8211; SENIOR DRILLING ENGINEER<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to reduce the drilling damage to the production formation caused by the invasion of the drilling fluid, increase the penetration rate (ROP), avoid circulation losses maximizing the rate of production in depleted deposits,&nbsp; Under Balance Drilling is the technique with which you can achieve those results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Under Balance Drilling (UBD): <\/strong>Itis the technique that allows drilling with the well\u2019s&nbsp; fluid hydrostatic pressure less than the formation pressure (FP). It is recommended that the pressure handled on the surface during drilling should not be greater than 500 psi (as operational practice, if the surface pressure reaches 700 psi, it is strong recommend that drilling should be stopped and pressure should be reduced ; if pressure does not decrease, the density of the mixture should be increased and circulated through choke until the pre-set working pressure is reached). It is also important to consider the type and maximum pressure range of the rotary head or rotary preventor to be used. <strong>The Under Balance can be achieved with Mud or Air fluid.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Under Balance Drilling with Mud: <\/strong>It consists of reducing the density of the drilling fluid, so that the pressure of the formation is slightly higher than the hydrostatic pressure. This technique allows for better hole stability and reservoir pressure control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Drilling with aerated Fluid:<\/strong> The aerated term applies for the use of nitrogen or air. This method involves pumping into the pipe a computed volume of nitrogen or air, so that when mixed with the well fluid, the hydrostatic column is reduced and the circulation losses caused by conventional mud systems are prevented or reduced. <strong>Example:<\/strong> A fluid with original density of 7.6 ppg is injected 450 scf\/min of nitrogen, can reduce its initial density up to 6.5 ppg, instead injecting 1050 scf\/min of nitrogen to that same original fluid achieves a density about 4.89 ppg <strong>(Reference: Field Experience).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UB technique is applied in many parts of the world and its has be increasing due to the considerable reduction in formation damage during drilling phase. <strong>For example,<\/strong> in gas-producing wells in south-east Venezuela that had an estimated production of 8.04 MMSCFPD, this technique was applied and a real production of 14.1 MMSCFPD was achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p><strong>Recommendation: <\/strong>To apply the UBD technique, it is previously suggested to performance a study of the Geomechanics of the formations to be
